We offer all the usual general practice and family medicine services you would expect from a doctors’ surgery. Whether you want to see a doctor because you are unwell, need specific medical advice, or would simply like to be healthier, we can help you.

Medical Card

We treat private patients and patients who hold a valid medical card or doctor visit card. We are also happy to see people who have recently moved to Cork or are here on a temporary basis. Visitors from the EU who hold a valid European Health Insurance Card do not have to
pay for emergency GP visits during their stay up to a maxium period of 3 months.

Please note, if you have a medical card registered with another GP then the terms of use of your Medical Card require that you attend this doctor. However if you are away from home or need emergency medical assistance we can treat you. All GMS/DVC or EHIC cards must be valid and presented on arrival.

There are 2 types of medical card in operation under the GMS Scheme
1. Full Medical Card
2. Doctor Visit Card or DV Card
There are some services which we provide that are not covered by the GMS contract and so are not paid for by the State. These include:

  • Blood tests (incur 10 euro courier fee)
  • Driving Licence Medical and Driving Licence Eye Test
  • Private Smear Tests
  • Travel Vaccines
  • Medical examinations or reports for legal purposes
  • Examinations in connection with fitness to take part in sports
  • Pregnancy tests
  • Dressings
  • Non Clinical Letters

Repeat Prescriptions

It is important for you to phone us before your prescription runs out. We would ask you to give a minimum of 48 hours notice when requesting
a repeat prescription. However, you must book a consultation with the doctor if it has been 6 months or more since you last had a check-up as we are obliged to review all medications at least twice per year.

Consultation

Consultations are by appointment and we also offer same day appointments for urgent reviews. If you feel you would need more time than this please let us know.

Also if you feel more than one person will need review please let the receptionist know so that all files can be ready for the doctor.
We recommend that some services including long acting contraceptive insertions and sti screening are most appropriately carried out in The
Blackrock Hall Surgery where we have a dedicated procedure room.

In the event that you need to cancel an appointment please notify the surgery at your earliest convenience.

Phone Calls

If you need to speak to your GP, the receptionist on duty will take your message and contact details and your call will be returned as
quickly as possible. We cannot specify a time for the doctor to ring you as this depends on the doctor’s daily workload – when very busy,
it may take 24 – 48 hours before a routine (non-urgent) call is returned.

If the advice you require is of an urgent nature, please highlight this to the receptionist in order that you can speak to the doctor at the earliest opportunity.

Payments

It is practice policy for all accounts to be settled at the time of consultation before leaving the surgery. We do not operate a ‘payment
on account’ system. To facilitate patients we have a Visa/Laser machine and also accept payment by cash and cheque.

Receipts are automatically issued at the time of payment for each visit. Please retain your receipts when issued as reprinting of receipts incurs a charge.
